Learning with – and not just about – students in other countries helps provide young people in North Carolina with important 21st Century skills like working in multi-national teams across cultures. International School Partnerships help build global competence and broaden students’ perspectives.
The Center has launched 30 Denmark School Partnerships between middle and high schools in North Carolina and schools in Denmark. Through these international partnerships, students have
- traveled to Denmark, many of them journeying outside North Carolina for the first time
- studied the European Union, a strategic economic and education partner of North Carolina’s
- mastered use of technologies like webconferencing to communicate directly with a culture very different from their own
Please see How does the Center for International Understanding Develop Denmark School Partnerships for a detailed description of the process for developing a partnership.
Why study Denmark? Studying Denmark gives students a window into understanding the European Union, an important economic and cultural partner. For more information on North Carolina/Denmark connections please review Why Denmark.
“The students themselves have shared much good will and a willingness to learn. I have seen an obvious increase in students’ confidence, self-reliance, and willingness to take risks. Parents have confirmed these changes.”
